WorldPay solved this problem by combining WorldPay's secure micro-payment system 'WorldAccount' with WorldPay's multi-currency solution.

Your online shoppers now have the ability to pay for goods or services as low in value as a penny, centime or cent, in a choice of 14 currencies.

An eCommerce web site can operate with both credit/debit card processing and WorldAccount. Using WorldPay standard integration solutions with the customer web site, shoppers can be handed to either payment option depending on the value of the purchase.

A potential shopper visits the customer's website and decides to make a low value purchase.
If the shopper does not have a WorldAccount, they are directed to a secure WorldAccount application. Here they select their preferred currency and open an account to a value not less than the local equivalent of £5 or the value of the goods (whichever is greater) by making a payment from their credit or debit card. This becomes their opening WorldAccount balance.
Once the shopper's WorldAccount has been opened, the purchase value of goods or services is deducted from their balance.
Every time the WorldAccount is used, the shopper and customer receive a unique digital receipt from WorldPay.
After a transaction, WorldPay deposits funds into the customer bank account.
